Am I ready for the Takeover?

The Green River Takeover is an at your own risk group paddle and is not a day of instruction or guiding. For the Takeover to be a success, it is essential that everyone participating already be comfortable on the section of river they are joining for. Due to the logistics of the day (timing, pace, extra large group), this is not the day to go bigger than usual, but rather the day to meet some awesome ladies to go big with on another day! Check out the "Am I Ready for the Takeover?" page for more specific info on this topic.

Where should I meet and when?

All Takeover paddlers (regardless of which section you are joining for) should meet at the Fishtop parking lot at 8:30am. Please carpool if you can and do your best to park as efficiently as possible so that we leave space for others in the parking lot.

For more details on the timing of the day, check out the Event Logistics and Timeline page.

What should I bring?

In addition to all of your essential paddling gear (including a throw rope), all you need is a lunch, money (cash or check) for purchasing raffle prizes and a smile!

If you plan to hang out later into the evening Saturday night, you'll also want to bring something to throw on the grill for dinner.

What are the details for the post paddling party ?

After we get off the river, everyone is invited to the Green River Gorge House just downstream of Fishtop for snacks, beverages (including beer and non-alcoholic options) and the event raffle. The house has some awesome space out by the river that is perfect for socializing and hanging out by the camp fire. If you plan to camp or stay later into the evening, you'll want to bring something to throw on the grill for dinner. The address is 2507 Green River Cove Rd Saluda, NC 28773.

What's this raffle all about?

The raffle raises money for some great causes in the memory of Shanon Christy and Maria Noakes, two women who were very special to the paddling community. Each $10 donation to the funds gets you one raffle ticket and the chance to win a ton of awesome prizes including a custom Dagger kayak! The raffle will take place after the river paddle and you must be present to win. Check out the Raffle Details and Prizes page for all the details!

Is there camping nearby?

There is actually camping available at the Green River Gorge House where we will be hosting the post paddling party Saturday evening. If you are planning to camp, please email greenrivertakeover@gmail.com and let us know which nights you'll be camping and approx arrival time so that we can have an idea of how many people to expect and when. You can camp anywhere in the grass towards the road next to the playground. There will be a port-o-potty in the driveway for use for those camping and attending the party (the house septic can't handle everyone using the indoor bathrooms). The address is 2507 Green River Cove Rd Saluda, NC 28773.

Please note that the camping is available to make it easier for those wanting to stay close to the event, but the event itself is during the day on Saturday only. There are no formal event activities planned for Friday or Saturday nights.
